I would like to see others with gospel music websites join together to promote independent artist projects. I am trying to practice what I preach. My goal is to learn how to create and market my own gospel music projects. www.technoinnovations.com/artist_page.htm

Hey Chris I am down to get something like this going. I am young and just starting but i want more than my local peoples hear my stuff. I want others to hear the sound that is being produced even though it is not pushed by the big companies

Well guys that's why I really created my website. To help promote independent gospel artists regardless where they live, what denomination they are or whether its a group, choir or solist! It's been a struggle but I feel its my way of ministering to God's people in my own little way. Somehow giving indie artists a platform for more exposure on the net. There are other sites doing this as well like www.nuthinbutgospel.com and www.contempogospel.comThere's another new website on the scene called www.thegospelzone.com that also showcases independent gospel artists. But I think this particular forum is asking artists how they are going about selling their music whether it's over the internet or not. What are your experiences if any that you'd like to share?

Well, my method is promotion internet and street wise. In the internet you want to hit as many chat rooms, forums, sites that deal with the type of music your doing and the type of music you want to cross-over to. This means you have to dedicate some time to research. For me, I give God all the credit and glory for endowing me with a creative mind. Something as simple as a search on "teenager forums", will open a world of new fans, collabo's and clients. For an indie artist, the internet is the sustaining tool that will take you places your money cant take you (right now). However, (in my opinion) you must treat as a marketing tool and not a mean to make money. It is a vehicle that will get you in the arena you need to be in to make what you want happen. But, it is hard work and long hours that will bring the most benefits. Outside of the internet, street promotions, open mics and shows are the way. That is the only way people will get to know you. I live in New York and though it may appear big it is small and the artist,s who,s name you continually hear is the one you will remember. MDD thanks for your post. And you're right...it is hard work and long hours that will bring the most benefits! I did the same thing in my approach to creating a website that caters to gospel music enthusiates. Here's a link to an indie centre website www.indiecentre.com/info/article.cfm?CategoryID=6&ArticleID=24There you'll read an article by a guy (in a rock band) who provides examples and info on how he approached DIY (Doing It Yourself) online. Don't let the genre' (Rock) distract you! His advice would apply to any genre' (Gospel, Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock, Adult Contemporary, etc...). www.musicbizacademy.com/ is another resource for any independent artist wanting to learn how to sell and promote their music. [glow=red,2,300]This is a valuable resource![/glow] As I come across more tips around the internet I will post it here for you. <br>

It is nice to see someone supporting indie artist. We are a new record company in the Washington DC area. Our office is located in Baltimore, Maryland. Our new release is called, "I Gotta a Praise." It has been in heavy rotation on the local radio stations, and we have began to get airplay in other states. The artist name is Detrick Edwards. God has blessed us to be featured on the NBA Allstar Gospel Jam in Philly with such artist as Jeff Majors, Morrett Brown Clark, and Wilmington Chester Mass Choir. We also opened for William Becton for Gospel Truth Magazines first concert. If you have a minute please check our artist's website out a detrickedwards.com. Music bites can be found on the buy music page. If you have any really hot artist that are looking for a strong new indie label please have them call us at 410-655-5662. We are looking to take the gospel market by storm through showing the industry a record company that stands on the integrity that God requires of us.
